The Rum Tum Tugger
|
|
He's the heart-throb of the Jellicles, and no matter what you do, he's bound to enter your heart. He's presented before the audience during his song, which is sung partly by Tugger himself, and in part by the chorus of awestruck cats. Most of Tugger's fame, I believe, is derived from his famous pelvic thrusts and his gorgeous voice.
| As Tugger walks, hops, and shall we just call it "thrusts" across the stage, he creates a very memorable character. Needless to say, all the kittens (and even some of the older female cats) are deeply in love with him. The young male cats try to imitate his actions. So basically, the women want him, and men want to be him J Overall, we get the impression that he's a rascal (a "scallywag", as my grandpa would say :) In other words, he's always on the wrong side of every door. |

His role in the play is significant, and his "thwups" serve to set the mood. Tugger also aids Munkustrap in the song "Old Deuteronomy", quite to the striped tabby's surprise, it seems. He's also the one that presents the Magical Mr. Mistoffelees as Old Deuteronomy's rescuer. In some productions, Tugger sings the entire song, while in others, Misto sings the second verse himself. Overall, if you're looking for the feline that you're bound to love no matter what he does, the Rum Tum Tugger is that cat J

In the above pictures the Rum Tum Tugger is portrayed by John Partidge. Ain't he just the cutest?
