Chapter Four
Lost

The dusty rays of sunlight crept along the floor, towards a sole male form the next morning... Once they reached his eyes he woke up. Opening his eyes he found himself alone. Not a living soul saw his peril as he called her name... No answer.

He kept trying to convince himself that it wasn't a dream. A dream. No. I couldn't have been. It was so vivid, so real. She had been so real. No, it wasn't a dream.

With fear tingling his spine, he walked about like a zombie, at every moment expecting a door to open or a voice to call. Yet, there was no one...

A single scribble on a desk attracted his eye. "They took me," it said. He needed no more explanation. It was her writing, scribbled, but clearly hers. She was somewhere and he would find her.

Walking outside, he looked down the street for an answer. Nothing was there. Looking straight ahead as the cars passing swiftly by, there seemed to be nothing either. Then he heard her... The sound of her voice calling his name from a taxi passing swiftly by echoes in his mind as if off the walls of a giant cavern. As she zoomed by, he saw them holding her in... not letting her go. Not letting her be happy.

Pulling over and jumping into a passing taxi... He yelled at the driver to follow her taxi. He was surprised at the urgency and threat in his voice. The driver steped on the gas, sending the little Parisian car speeding into heavy traffic, dodging all the other cars in sight. Slowly but surely they came closer and closer to her. He could feel it... He wasn't going to loose her again.

Finally clear of the dense traffic both cars sped up, his taxi followed her taxi, his driver impatient to drop of the seemingly lunatic passenger, who was trembling knowing that nothing could stop him now.
A red car slowly emerged into his taxi's path. There was nothing the driver could do. The last thing our hero heard before his world went dark was screeching brakes, screams, sliding metal and breaking glass.

When he opened his eyes, on first waking up, he saw all white. Afraid of being blind, he quickly sat up blinking away madly. No. He could see, but what was this white room he was in...

Speaking to himself, he uttered: "Where am I? Who... WHO am I?"

His cries awoke the suspicions of the nurses outside. One of them came in, and, putting her hands on him as to restrain him, began speaking to him in French.

"Where am I? Who are you people? Who am I?" he screamed.

A doctor entered and spoke to him in English. "Calm down or we will have to restrain you."

Panicking, not knowing his own identity, he continued to cry out.

The doctor called out in French. Two orderlies entered, along with a nurse. The orderlies grabbed him by the arms, pinning him to the bed. The nurse attached the restraints. He struggled against them, but finding himself weak from his ordeal was no match for them. When they were done, he was immobile, strappped to the bed at his wrists and ankles.

A man entered the room, dressed in a tuxedo. He gave an order to the nurse, who exited the room. He then turned to the doctor, and said, "Make sure he is never found."

The nurse returned with a long needle. He could not struggle against the injection they gave him. The man in the tuxedo came to the side of the bed and said to him, "She is mine, and now you will pay the price."

She... thoughts began to come into his mind... He remembered who he was, why he had traveled, everything. He called out her name, just as the chemical took hold, and cast him into a sea of darkness.
